TRIPS: Our President, Nadya Columbus, is leaving to Moscow on May 1st. In terms of other trips, some of my NOVA colleagues were thinking about attending the ALA (American Library Association) conference or BEA (Book Expo America). As an Academic and STM Publisher however, sometimes such meetings are helpful and at other times, they are not particularly useful. We are also days away from the ARVO conference in Seattle (The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology). I hope we can participate in some way particularly because it is important for our authors that we do (see the related and newly released title by NOVA Science Publishers: Uveitic Glaucoma:

These are business trips. What is really on my mind is Costa Rica or Hawaii.

NEWS: Today it was confirmed that Amazon will be providing eBooks to New York City public schools. This is a deal that amounts to approximately $35 million (how, I am not sure…). A great deal for Amazon. But is it a good deal for the students? In other news, starting in 2017, there will be an increase tax on books (from 5 to 15% in some parts of Canada). Hopefully, this will not affect consumers’ buying habits, although it probably will.

In last week’s New York Times, there was a #1 Bestseller – “When Breath Becomes Air.” I decided to purchase it on my Kindle and I read it in one day. I highly recommend the book.

NOVA SCIENCE PUBLISHERS: Today, we received a few endorsements for different NOVA books. One was for “Sports Nutrition: A Guide for Youth Sport Coaches” –  The endorsement was written by a well-known USA Volleyball Coaching Education Director and read as follows:

“Proper nutrition for athletic performance is one of the most overlooked, under addressed, misrepresented, and misunderstood topics for optimal sport performance at all levels….but even more so for youth sport coaches, parents, and players.  Sports Nutrition: A Guide for Youth Sport Coaches will help coaches, athletes, and their parents make sure their players’ “tanks” are full of the right fuel at the right times for their sport!”

Thank you, Diana Cole!

In other NOVA news, in next month’s issue of Nephrology News & Issues (, information comes out about our author’s new book – “Essentials of Chronic Kidney Disease.” Please check it out!

Finally, in a presentation done by Dr. Wim Meester, in the Head of Product Management at SCOPUS, much to our delight, we noticed NOVA Science Publishers as a lead publisher in terms of Scopus books coverage. We were quite happy about it.

Finally, we wish to congratulate our advisor, renowned China expert and probably one of the greatest men working in Publishing today – Robert Baensch – on his webinar coming up about the Chinese marketplace. If you have time and this is an interesting subject for you, please sign up – You will get information from this man you can’t find anywhere else.

Have a nice weekend, everyone!
